Minor eye infections such as conjunctivitis, blepharitis and styes are common conditions affecting the eyes and eyelids. Symptoms can include redness, itching, discharge and irritation. Most cases clear up without treatment within a couple of weeks, but where treatment is needed, options range from self-care measures to antibiotic eye drops, ointments or oral antibiotics, depending on the type and severity of the infection.

A sticky or crusty discharge, often worse first thing in the morning.

A small, painful lump on the eyelid (stye).
A burning sensation in the eye.
