Elocon Cream & Ointment

Elocon Cream and Ointment contain mometasone furoate (0.1%), a strong corticosteroid used to calm inflammation and soothe irritated skin. These treatments are primarily prescribed for skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and dermatitis where inflammation and discomfort are prevalent. Both forms provide targeted relief, helping to manage persistent flare-ups.

The active ingredient in Elocon, mometasone furoate, works by blocking the release of inflammatory substances in the body, which helps to reduce swelling and irritation. It effectively reduces itching, redness, and inflammation by targeting the underlying cause of skin irritation. Elocon provides fast-acting relief by applying the medication directly to affected areas.

• Apply a thin layer of Elocon Cream or Ointment once a day to the affected area.
• Wash your hands before and after application (except if you are treating your hands).
• Do not use on broken or infected skin, and avoid using on the face unless directed by a healthcare provider.
• Use for no longer than 5 consecutive days unless advised by a medical professional.
• Avoid airtight dressings unless instructed, as they may increase absorption and intensify side effects.

While side effects are rare, they can include:

• A burning or itching sensation at the application site
• Thinning skin (with prolonged use)
• Minor changes in skin colour or pigmentation

Less common side effects may include:

• Skin irritation
• Acne or rosacea
• Secondary infections, such as fungal or bacterial infections

If any side effects worsen or you experience serious reactions, such as signs of an allergic reaction or infection, discontinue use and consult a doctor.

• Avoid using on broken skin or areas where an infection is present.
• Do not apply to the face, particularly near the eyes, unless explicitly recommended by your healthcare provider.
• Consult your doctor before using Elocon if you have allergic reactions to steroids or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Do not apply to genital or anal areas unless advised.
• Airtight dressings: Do not use Elocon under airtight dressings unless instructed by a healthcare professional.
• If treating chronic conditions such as leg ulcers or skin folds, speak with your doctor before use.
• Consult a doctor if symptoms do not improve within 7 days of using Elocon.
