Famciclovir (Generic Famvir)

Famvir is an antiviral medication designed to treat herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections, including cold sores, genital herpes, and shingles. The active ingredient, famciclovir, works by blocking the action of a viral enzyme, preventing the virus from multiplying and helping the body manage the infection more effectively.

Famvir is converted in the body to its active form, which blocks DNA polymerase, an enzyme that the herpes virus relies on to replicate. By inhibiting this enzyme, Famvir helps to reduce the severity of symptoms, speeds up healing, and gives the body time to suppress the virus. While Famvir doesn’t cure herpes, it can significantly alleviate the symptoms and reduce the risk of further outbreaks.

Take two 125mg a day with water for five days.
It’s important to start treatment as soon as symptoms appear for optimal results.

Famvir is generally well tolerated, but some individuals may experience mild side effects, such as:

• Headaches
• Nausea
• Diarrhoea
• Tiredness

These side effects are typically temporary. Rarely, more severe side effects like stomach pain, vomiting, or cramps may occur. If any side effects persist or worsen, speak to your doctor.

• Allergy: If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in Famvir, do not use this medication.
• Kidney or Liver Conditions: If you have a history of kidney or liver issues, consult your doctor before using Famvir.
• Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Famvir is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding unless your doctor advises otherwise.
• Galactose Intolerance: Famvir should be avoided if you have galactose intolerance.
