Frequently Asked Questions for Femodette
What Is Femodette?
Femodette is a combined hormonal contraceptive containing synthetic versions of two female sex hormones. It's specifically designed for women seeking contraception which also helps manage menstrual symptoms. The low hormone dose makes it suitable for those who want effective birth control with potentially fewer hormone-related side effects.
How It Works
Femodette prevents pregnancy through three primary mechanisms:
- Suppresses ovulation by preventing the ovaries from releasing an egg
- Thickens cervical mucus, creating a barrier that makes it difficult for sperm to reach the womb
- Thins the uterine lining, making it harder for a fertilized egg to implant and develop
While highly effective against pregnancy (up to 99% when used correctly), Femodette does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
Administration Instructions
- Take one pill daily at the same time for 21 consecutive days
- Follow with a 7-day pill-free break during which you'll experience a withdrawal bleed
- Start the next pack after the 7-day break, even if bleeding continues
- For new users, start on the first day of your period for immediate protection
- If starting after day 5 of your period, use additional contraception for 7 days
If you miss a pill:
- Less than 24 hours late: Take immediately and continue as normal (protection maintained)
- 2-7 pills missed: Take the most recently missed pill immediately, continue with the pack, and use additional contraception for 7 days
- 8+ pills missed: You may need emergency contraception; consult your doctor
Take Femodette with water, with or without food. If vomiting or severe diarrhea occurs within 2 hours of taking a pill, protection may be compromised.
