Frequently Asked Questions for KATYA 30/75 Tablets

What Is Katya?

Katya is an oral contraceptive that contains synthetic versions of two female hormones: ethinylestradiol (an estrogen) and gestodene (a progestogen). It's equivalent to other combined pills like Femodene and Millinette 30/75. Beyond pregnancy prevention, it can help regulate periods, reduce PMS symptoms, and potentially improve skin condition.

How It Works

Katya functions through multiple mechanisms to prevent pregnancy:

  • Inhibits ovulation by suppressing the release of eggs from the ovaries
  • Thickens cervical mucus, creating a barrier that impedes sperm movement
  • Alters the uterine lining, making it less receptive to implantation

While highly effective against pregnancy, Katya does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.

Administration Instructions

  • Take one tablet daily for 21 consecutive days
  • Follow with a 7-day pill-free break during which a withdrawal bleed typically occurs
  • Begin the next pack after the 7-day break
  • For new users, start on the first day of your period for immediate protection
  • If starting on any other day, use additional contraception for the first 7 days
  • When switching from another contraceptive, follow specific guidelines to maintain protection

If you miss a pill:

  • Less than 12 hours late: Take immediately and continue as normal (protection maintained)
  • More than 12 hours late: Take immediately, continue as normal, but use additional contraception for 7 days (protection compromised)

Side Effects

Common side effects may include:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Abdominal discomfort
  • Headaches or migraines
  • Breast tenderness or enlargement
  • Weight fluctuations
  • Fluid retention
  • Vaginal thrush
  • Breakthrough bleeding

Most side effects typically improve within three months of starting treatment.
