Further Information
What It Is
Lovima is a daily contraceptive pill designed to prevent pregnancy. It’s a progestogen-only pill (POP), commonly known as the mini-pill. Lovima contains desogestrel, which works to prevent ovulation, thicken cervical mucus, and make it harder for sperm to reach the egg.
How It Works
Lovima works by releasing desogestrel, which prevents the ovaries from releasing an egg and thickens the mucus in the cervix, making it more difficult for sperm to reach the egg. This method offers continuous protection against pregnancy and is ideal for women who cannot take combined contraceptive pills.
How to Use
- Take one pill daily at the same time each day.
- Swallow the pill whole with water.
- Do not skip doses or take breaks between packs.
- If you miss a dose by less than 12 hours, take it as soon as you remember and continue as normal. If it’s been more than 12 hours, follow the instructions on the patient leaflet.
