Microgynon 30

Microgynon 30 is a combined oral contraceptive pill that contains:

• 30mcg ethinylestradiol (estrogen)
• 150mcg levonorgestrel (progesterone)

It works by preventing ovulation, thickening cervical mucus to block sperm, and altering the uterine lining to reduce the chance of egg implantation. Each pack contains 21 pills for 21 consecutive days of use, followed by a 7-day break.

Microgynon 30 ED (Every Day) is a similar formulation with 21 active pills and 7 placebo pills, allowing continuous daily use for simplicity.

Microgynon 30 prevents pregnancy by:

• Stopping ovulation so eggs are not released.
• Thickening cervical mucus to block sperm entry.
• Changing the uterine lining to prevent egg implantation.

This combination of actions ensures highly effective contraceptive protection when taken as directed.

• Dosage: Take 1 pill daily for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break (or placebo pills for Microgynon 30 ED).
• Administration: Swallow with water, ideally at the same time every day.
• Missed Pills: Follow the missed pill guidelines carefully to maintain effectiveness.
• Continuity: Start a new pack immediately after the 7-day break, regardless of whether withdrawal bleeding has ended.

Most side effects are mild and settle within a few months.

Do not use Microgynon 30 if you have:

• History of blood clots, stroke, or heart disease.
