Spedra

Spedra is an oral medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men. It contains avanafil as its active ingredient and is classified as a PDE5 inhibitor. This means it works by blocking the enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5, which regulates blood flow to the penis. Spedra is a newer option in the class of ED treatments and is available in various strengths (50mg, 100mg, and 200mg).

Spedra works by relaxing the blood vessels in the penis, allowing for increased blood flow when sexually aroused. It targets and inhibits the action of the enzyme PDE5, which normally restricts blood flow. By doing so, Spedra helps men with ED achieve and maintain an erection suitable for sexual activity, provided there is sexual stimulation.

Spedra tablets should be swallowed whole, and it is recommended to take them at least 30 minutes before sexual activity. The medication works best when taken on an empty stomach, as food can delay absorption. If taken after a meal, it may take up to 1.5 hours for the effects to be felt. The recommended starting dose is 100mg, with a maximum dose of 200mg per day. Spedra should not be taken within 24 hours of any other erectile dysfunction medication. Always follow your doctor’s instructions regarding dosing.

Common side effects of Spedra may include:

• Flushing
• Nasal congestion
• Back pain

Serious side effects, although rare, include:

• Priapism (an erection lasting longer than 2 hours, which requires immediate medical attention)
• Blurred vision
• Sudden vision loss in one or both eyes
• Sudden hearing loss, dizziness, or ringing in the ears

• Coexisting Medical Conditions: Spedra may not be suitable for men with certain health conditions such as heart disease, recent stroke, or low blood pressure.
• Drug Interactions: Spedra should not be taken with medications containing nitrates (used for angina), as this could lead to a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Additionally, some medications may interfere with Spedra's effectiveness, so it’s important to consult your healthcare provider about any other drugs you are taking.
• Driving and Operating Machinery: Spedra may cause dizziness or changes in vision. It is advisable to be cautious and see how you react to the medication before driving or using heavy machinery.
