Veoza Tablets

Veoza, containing the active ingredient fezolinetant, is the first medicine licensed in the UK solely for treating menopause-related hot flushes. Unlike hormone replacement therapy (HRT), Veoza does not contain oestrogen or any hormones, making it a suitable option for women unable or unwilling to take hormonal treatments.

During menopause, a drop in oestrogen disrupts the brain’s internal temperature regulation, leading to hot flushes and night sweats. Fezolinetant targets a brain protein called neurokinin B (NKB), which becomes overactive during this hormonal shift. By blocking the NKB receptor, Veoza helps to rebalance the body’s temperature control, easing the severity and frequency of symptoms.

• Dosage: One 45mg tablet per day

• Timing: Take at the same time each day, with or without food

• How to take: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water

• Missed dose: Skip it if it’s less than 12 hours until your next dose—never double up

• Overdose: Taking too much may cause nausea, headache, or tingling sensations. Speak to your doctor if this happens.

Like all medicines, Veoza may cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. As it’s a newly authorised medicine, it is under extra monitoring.

Common side effects:

• Trouble sleeping

• Stomach discomfort

• Diarrhoea

• Elevated liver enzymes (seen in blood tests)

Rare but serious reactions:

• Severe allergic response (e.g. swelling of the face, rash, breathing difficulty) — seek emergency care immediately

Do not take Veoza if you:

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding

• Have not yet gone through menopause

• Have an allergy to fezolinetant or any of its components

• Are taking strong or moderate CYP1A2 inhibitors (e.g. fluvoxamine, enoxacin, mexiletine, or combined contraceptives with ethinyl oestradiol)

Speak to your doctor before using if you:

• Have liver or kidney disease

• Have a history of seizures

• Are taking HRT or oestrogen-based treatments

• Have had hormone-sensitive cancers (like breast cancer)
