Further Information
What It Is
Veoza, containing the active ingredient fezolinetant, is the first medicine licensed in the UK solely for treating menopause-related hot flushes. Unlike hormone replacement therapy (HRT), Veoza does not contain oestrogen or any hormones, making it a suitable option for women unable or unwilling to take hormonal treatments.
How It Works
During menopause, a drop in oestrogen disrupts the brain’s internal temperature regulation, leading to hot flushes and night sweats. Fezolinetant targets a brain protein called neurokinin B (NKB), which becomes overactive during this hormonal shift. By blocking the NKB receptor, Veoza helps to rebalance the body’s temperature control, easing the severity and frequency of symptoms.
How to Administer
-
Dosage: One 45mg tablet per day
-
Timing: Take at the same time each day, with or without food
-
How to take: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water
-
Missed dose: Skip it if it’s less than 12 hours until your next dose—never double up
-
Overdose: Taking too much may cause nausea, headache, or tingling sensations. Speak to your doctor if this happens.
Side Effects
Like all medicines, Veoza may cause side effects, although not everyone experiences them. As it’s a newly authorised medicine, it is under extra monitoring.
