Frequently Asked Questions for Trisequens
What is Trisequens?
Trisequens is a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) designed to relieve symptoms of menopause and reduce the risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
It contains two active ingredients:
- Oestradiol: A form of oestrogen (2mg and 1mg).
- Norethisterone: A form of progestogen.
How Does Trisequens Work?
During menopause, the body produces less oestrogen, leading to symptoms like hot flushes, vaginal dryness, and mood changes.
Trisequens replenishes lost oestrogen, easing these symptoms. However, taking oestrogen alone can increase the risk of womb cancer. To counteract this, Trisequens includes norethisterone (progestogen), which protects the womb lining from overstimulation.
What is Trisequens Used For?
Trisequens is used to treat:
- Hot flushes and night sweats.
- Vaginal dryness or discomfort.
- Changes in libido.
- Sleep disturbances.
- Low mood and anxiety.
- Osteoporosis prevention after menopause.
By restoring hormone levels, Trisequens helps improve physical and emotional well-being during menopause.
How to Take Trisequens Tablets
Each Trisequens pack includes three types of tablets in different colours:
- Days 1–12: Take one blue tablet daily.
- Days 13–22: Take one white tablet daily.
- Days 23–28: Take one red tablet daily.
After completing the pack, start a new one immediately the next day. Tablets should be taken at the same time each day with water.
Side Effects of Trisequens Tablets
While most women tolerate Trisequens well, some may experience side effects, including:
- Breast tenderness or discomfort.
- Irregular or heavy bleeding.
- Weight changes.
- Nausea or abdominal pain.
- Leg cramps.
- Vaginal inflammation or infections.
Severe but rare side effects:
- Symptoms of blood clots (e.g., leg swelling, sudden chest pain, or difficulty breathing).
- Signs of liver problems (e.g., jaundice).
